I've never been a quitter, but I'm tired of being overlooked.

I had been working for the same business for the last 10 years.

  • I’ve always enjoyed doing my job, and I’m not a quitter, but I was tired of being overlooked for raises and promotions.

I was told that I was doing such a good job, that they didn’t want me out of my position, but that didn’t explain why they weren’t giving me raises. It had been almost 5 years since anyone had even talked about my getting a raise in pay. When I still didn’t get anyone to talk to me within a week, I quit. I’m not a quitter, but I was tired of it. I knew that even if I didn’t have a job in the next month, I had enough money in the bank covered. Instead of waiting the full month, I decided to try my hand at something different. I was looking at the newspaper and I saw where the new HVAC classes were opening soon. They still had several openings for HVAC students, and I signed up. It seemed a bit rash, but I often made decisions quickly. One week ago, I found myself sitting in an HVAC class with 25 men and me. We were all there to learn how to become HVAC technicians. I would’ve thought they would have more women in that class, but that I would’ve thought wrong. The instructor welcomed me, the same as he did everyone else who is not room. He told us all that becoming an HVAC technician was not going to easy, and some of us would not pass the course but he welcomed us all. I was already beginning to feel like I was finally a part of the whole
