We figured out how to save money on our cooling costs

It was the Springtime last year when my husband and I were suddenly looking at a bit of a financial problem staring back at us.

I’d just been sent back to my house from the zone controlled HVAC of our office.

He had lost his job also. So not only was I really working from the condo but I was doing so with a big pay cut also. And my husband’s job was fairly critical to our finances as well. We had some extreme regrouping to do in order to pay the mortgage. Our cost cutting was very serious, and there was no incidental spending at all. We only spent money on our essentials. And the two of us needed to save money on those essentials as well. One main target of our savings was the HVAC cooling costs. Where the two of us live, the air conditioning can be on for 8 months out of the year. But it’s the Summer where it really hits the old pocketbook with a wallop. We’d made efforts to rein in the HVAC cooling costs before, but the two of us just weren’t ever all that disciplined about doing it. We were making cooling costs a priority. Well, 2020 changed all of that for us. I set about making the new home as tight as it could be. And the main culprit was around all the doors so I upgraded all the weather stripping. Then we made sure that the drapes were pulled down while in the heat of the morning in order to prevent direct sunshine heating. I think it was really just all about the temperature control. And so the two of us kept it in the mid 70’s that entire summer. Really though, the two of us got accustomed to just using a fan if the two of us were hot. Our efforts saved us hundreds of dollars that summer.
