I live in a gated community. The beautiful fact is that I am fortunate to be able to live in such a nice city. Of course this was in an accident, it’s a planned community so much of the homes resemble each other quite a bit. But, both of us have a golf course and a good club house with a cool swimming pool. There is also something called the homeowners association. I’m personally not so fond of them. While an HOA is perhaps a necessary regulatory mechanism to maintain a certain standard, the overall trade off is not favorable. Keeping the property values from plummeting is honestly the only thing I can see that is any good about the HOA. There truly has to be some sort of regulatory arm to enforce common sense standards and then back off. I just wish it could stop there. The HOA in my community legitimately has been on me about my Heating, Ventilation, and A/C device for the past year at least. Apparently, they don’t love the fact that my condenser device has naturally faded from the sun. I gained a number of letters citing rules that I was supposedly splitting because my condenser wasn’t red enough. I promptly went about my business and ignored them. Then I started getting threatening letters about the terrible Heating, Ventilation, and A/C. So, I acquiesced and put a fresh coat of outdoor paint on the dang condenser cover to get them off my back. But, of course that wasn’t enough. The HOA has decided that the condenser needs to be entirely upgraded. That’s right, a perfectly good Heating, Ventilation, and A/C component must be replaced and upgraded because of a color issue.
