I feel really sorry for the Wilson boys.
They are five, seven, and nine and my eight year old son plays with them all the time.
Their father is in prison, and their mother works as a daytime barmaid at the local watering hole for alcoholics. She doesn’t make much money. And wouldn’t you know that it was the middle of a cold snap when her gas tank ran dry and they lost their heat. The Wilson boys’ mother didn’t have the money to get the gas tank filled and the boys were cold. I found this out over the weekend when the boys just didn’t want to go home. Even the five year old wanted to stay and spend the night. I couldn’t send those boys home with no heat. So, I went on a local social media site and started a gofundme account to get this family some gas so they could heat their home. It took only 24 hour to come up with enough for a tank of gas, with some left over for cheap space heaters. I would have just paid for it myself, but I just couldn’t spare that much money. But, first thing Monday morning, I emptied the gofundme account and paid for a tank of gas to be delivered to the Wilson family so that they could have heat, and I bought them three tower space heaters. I think it’s a great thing when the community can come together and help meet the needs of others, and now the Wilson boys have heat.

I’m trying to get my little sister, who is single, to go on a date with my husband’s buddy and coworker, Chuck.
Now Chuck is a really nice guy, and he is dependable.
My sister usually chooses questionable men with questionable jobs or men who can’t stay at a job. But, Chuck is an HVAC technician and has been with the same HVAC service and supply company as my husband for years. That says a lot. But, my sister thinks HVAC technicians are boring, because my husband is boring, and I have tried to convince her otherwise. So, I have decided to throw a barbecue, and invite them both. Even though as an HVAC technician Chuck works with people all the time, in social situations he is a little shy. I will make sure to personally introduce them and steer the conversation to fun topics. I would really like my sister and Chuck to get to know each other. There will be other people at my barbacue and I hope that my sister and Chuck single each other out. I would love to see my sister with someone like Chuck. HVAC technicians have to have some degree of intelligence to take the HVAC training and certification courses. They have to be in somewhat good health to perform the physical labor. HVAC technicians make decent money and get good benefits. And they certainly aren’t all boring like my little sister thinks. I really hope things work out between my sister and Chuck. I think my sister would do well with an HVAC technician.

I really don’t like the cold all that much.
I don’t really like extreme heat either. The perfect temperature for me is 80 degrees. During the summer, I set the thermostat for the air conditioner at 80 degrees and turn on the ceiling fans and it is comfortable to me. That doesn’t mean I set my heat on 80 degrees. I’m too cheap for that. I keep the heat set at 68 and keep a fire going in the fireplace. I walk around in hoodies and cozy socks, and I stay warm enough, but, if I wasn’t so cheap, I would probably also set the heat at 80 degrees. I know 80 degrees is a little warm to some people, but I grew up and still live in a tropical area and I am used to the heat. What is bothersome is the humidity. Eighty degrees isn’t so comfortable when the humidity is at 95%. Then the heat index goes way up. If it is only eighty degrees outside but the humidity is high, I will turn on the a/c and set the thermostat at 78 degrees. But, if the humidity isn’t all that bad, I will turn off the HVAC and open up the house if it’s 80 degrees outside. My husband is the opposite. He would keep the house closed up and the a/c set on 68 degrees if it wouldn’t make me uncomfortable. He likes the cold, but he’s not one to complain much about the heat, and 80 degrees is warm to him. He happily compromises when it comes to the HVAC. .
It was clear before the service even started that there was something wrong with the heater at the little church we attend.
It was a small church and remained empty most of the week.
I assume the pastor comes before Sunday school to turn the heat on and warm up the place, but it was cold in that church before services started that day. It was about 50 degrees outside and pretty close to that in the church. The ushers brought out space heaters, but, even though it was a small sanctuary, it was still so large that the little space heaters really didn’t help. My husband and I decided that my husband would take a look at the church’s HVAC system after the service. He’s an HVAC technician. We live close to the church so after the service, we ran home, my husband put on some work clothes and got his HVAC work van and went back to the church to check out the HVAC problem. As it turned out, the heating coil had burned out. We live in a subtropical area with short, mild winters and most of the homes and businesses in this area are heated through a self contained central air conditioning system with a heating coil installed in it. It was an easy fix. My husband was able to order the heating coil through his work at a discount and within a couple of days, the church had heat again. We were really grateful we could help. Service the following Sunday was a lot more comfortable
Once my husband and I retired from our jobs, we didn’t know what to do with ourselves.
- We have friends who are happy to sit on their front porch and watch the world go by.
There are others who spend their days golfing, playing bingo and watching television. That’s just not for us. We are active and like to accomplish something every day. We decided to start flipping houses. We look for properties in a good neighborhood that have been abandoned or neglected. We buy these homes at a low price, put a great deal of labor into fixing them up and sell for a small profit. Since we typically live in the house as we’re handling the renovations, we try to find those places that aren’t in horrible shape. My husband and I are capable of completing most of the work ourselves. We enjoy knocking down walls and putting up new drywall. We replace windows, install new kitchen cupboards and appliances, paint, install modern light fixtures and update the plumbing. We’re happy to take care of all of the landscaping. The only thing we don’t really want to touch is the heating and cooling equipment. Before making an offer on a property, we first ask a licensed HVAC contractor to inspect the system and tell us if it’s safe and reliable. We don’t mind investing in maintenance and minor repairs. We don’t want to get into replacing an entire furnace or installing central air conditioning. We stay away from houses that have concerns with the ductwork or very outdated heating or cooling components.
He then suggested that I make the switch to a commercial rooftop unit.
Even when I was just a little girl, I wanted to someday own and operate my own bakery. I have always loved to create my own recipes for muffins, cookies, pies and cakes, and I really enjoy sharing them. I went to culinary school, graduated and immediately took a job at one of the larger bakeries. I hoped to learn as much as possible while saving up money to open my own place. It took me quite a few years to come up with enough for a decent down payment. It also took me a long time to find the right location for my bakery. I checked out one property after another, searching for a building that was adequate size, situated with easy access and yet within my price range. I finally found the ideal spot. I could afford it because the building had been left vacant for a long time. The parking lot was cracked and sprouting weeds. The windows were broken, roof leaking and the HVAC system a rusted husk. The heating and cooling equipment was situated right on the side of the building, creating an eyesore and taking up valuable parking space. I knew that my dad and I could handle most of the renovations on our own. I figured it best to hire a licensed HVAC contractor to provide recommendations and installation of a suitable heating and cooling equipment. The contractor told me that the existing system was not worth keeping. I was actually relieved to get rid of it. He then suggested that I make the switch to a commercial rooftop unit. The packaged unit combines both heating and cooling capacity and is installed on the roof of the building. It no longer detracts from aesthetics, occupies needed space or causes disruption due to operational noise. When it needs to be serviced, the contractor has access without interrupting my business.
The price was right and the equipment only requires mounting capabilities and access to electricity.
I have made a hobby of refinishing antique furniture. I love to check out antique stores, flea markets, garage sales and estate auctions. I look for good hardwood pieces that have been painted over a million times, slightly damaged or simply neglected and need some loving care. Because of the condition of the furniture, I can often get good quality for a very low price. I buy tables, chairs, dressers, vanities, buffets, wardrobes and all sorts of different items and then refinish them. The refinishing process is rather labor-intensive, messy and time-consuming. I start by applying a chemical paint stripper that’s super toxic and requires adequate ventilation. I then move onto sanding with different grades of paper, creating a great deal of dust. Once I finally reach the stage where I apply the polyurethane, there can’t be any dust in the air. The fumes are really terrible, and I need to put on at least three costs of the finish. To handle the start-to-finish job, I need a workshop that provides temperature control. The sub zero conditions in the winter and high humidity in the summer are a problem. When I built a shed in the backyard, I had no idea how I was going to handle heating and cooling. I certainly didn’t want to invest thousands of dollars into a hobby. I was looking for something relatively inexpensive, compact, safe and energy efficient. With just a bit of research, I came across ductless mini split systems. This was the perfect solution for me. The price was right and the equipment only requires mounting capabilities and access to electricity. There is an outdoor compressor linked by way of a conduit to an indoor air handler. Although very small, the ductless system is powerful enough to achieve the ideal temperature very quickly. I only run it while I’m working and it’s wonderfully energy efficient.
Commercial air conditioning
We needed to find some type of whole-home temperature control that we could install without destroying the architectural integrity.
My husband and I spent more in order to purchase a home in the historical district. We liked the charm of the neighborhood and the features of an older home. The house has ten-foot ceilings, large mullioned windows, hardwood floors and all sorts of interesting moldings. There’s an enormous fieldstone fireplace in the living room, a balcony off the master bedroom and a large wrap around porch along the backside of the house. We never considered that many of these features were going to cause us all sorts of problems. For one thing, the house is nearly impossible to heat and cool. Since we live in an area with sub zero temperatures during the winter and brutal humidity during the summer, we rely on some type of temperature control just about all year long. When we moved in, the house was heated by a whole series of electric baseboard heaters. They not only look terrible, but these bulky units aren’t capable of keeping up with demand. With such high ceilings, the heat rises straight up and we nearly froze to death. In the summer, window air conditioning units helped with keeping the room cool but looked hideous. We really didn’t want a cooling unit sticking out of the window in every single room. We needed to find some type of whole-home temperature control that we could install without destroying the architectural integrity. We certainly didn’t want to start tearing down the old walls and ceilings and deal with that kind of mess. However, without centralized ductwork our options were limited. We finally came across something called high-velocity HVAC, which was the perfect solution. This type of system utilizes mini-ducts that are inserted into existing walls without causing any damage.
